Get Ready to Escape from Poe’s Mansion!

If you are only planning to visit haunted houses this October, think again.  Sure, they are scary, but nothing is more thrilling than being locked in a room while you solve challenging riddles to escape in a limited amount of time. That’s right! We are talking about a library escape room! But this isn’t just any escape room…you’ll get to solve the decades long mystery of what happened to Edgar Allen Poe!

Poe is generally considered the inventor of the detective fiction genre, and his death is a mystery that continues to baffle experts. However, at the Rolling Meadows Library, you will be able to find a cornucopia of clues that just may solve the case, and earn free prizes while you do.  So, what are you waiting for? Stop by the Welcome Desk or call us at (847) 259-6050 to sign up for a free 60 minute session and join us this Saturday, October 28th, at Rolling Meadows Library!

We still have two open slots for teams of six at 11 am and noon, so you can still sign up!

Movie Review – Air

New to the Readers Advisory collection…

Based on true events, Air is a biographical sports film portraying Michael Jordan’s early career in basketball. The film focuses on the dramatic endorsement negotiations with Nike for what would turn out to be the wildly successful Air Jordan basketball shoe.

Directed by Ben Affleck and written by Alex Convery, it stars Matt Damon, Ben Affleck, Viola Davis, Jason Bateman, Chris Tucker, Marlon Wayans, and Chris Messina. Interestingly, Michael Jordan does not appear in the movie as Ben Affleck thought he remains too iconic a figure and would overshadow the story.

The crisp dialog is at its best in the capable hands of Viola Davis who gives a great performance as MJ’s mother, Deloris Jordan, portraying her as a tough, wise negotiator. With period costuming, a popular 80’s music soundtrack, consistently built tension, and great chemistry between veteran actors Affleck and Damon, I think all viewers, include ones who are not sports fans, will thoroughly enjoy this movie. This film is rated R for language throughout.

IMDB: 7.4/10
Rotten Tomatoes: 93% Tomatometer, 98% Audience Score
Google: 4.3/5
