From the Couch – Homeland Season 5

Now working for a private security firm in Berlin, Carrie Mathison (Claire Danes) is starting a new life raising her daughter, Frannie, with her boyfriend, Jonas Hollander (Alexander Fehling). She soon discovers that no matter how hard she tries, she can’t escape her past with the CIA. Carrie must discover who is trying to kill her to keep her quiet. She must also uncover a deadly plot that could kill thousands of citizens.
Homeland is a smart, tight drama series. After five seasons, the viewer feels invested in the characters. Plus, the plot line is always changing and re-calibrating. Season 6 is airing now on Showtime.
If you love political intrigue, Homeland is definitely the series for you!

From the Couch – Mercy Street Season 1

A breakout historical drama last winter, Mercy Street returns to PBS on January 22nd for a second season.  We have the first season in our TV series collection!

Taking place at the Mansion House Hospital in the Union occupied city of Alexandria, Virginia during the early days of the Civil War, Mercy Street follows the experiences of those on both sides of the conflict, including nurse Mary Phinney, surgeon Jedidiah Foster, and the wealthy Green family.  Starring Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Josh Radnor, Gary Cole, McKinley Belcher III, and a varied cast of excellent actors, this is definitely a suggested series for those interested in the American Civil War or medical dramas.

Some suggested watch-a-likes if you’ve already viewed this series include:
Cold Mountain
The Conspirator
Free State of Jones
Gods and Generals

From the Couch – House of Cards, Season 4

Have you been faithfully following the conventions on TV this summer? Last month, Season 4 of House of Cards was released to DVD. Frank and Claire Underwood have always been a strong political team. This season, they have become even greater adversaries as their ambitions are now at odds with each other. I can’t wait for Season 5!
