Throwback Thursday – Eowyn Ivey

throwbackthursdayThe Snow Child by Eowyn Ivey was a Books and Bagels (B & B) group favorite back in 2015. This debut novel was also a Pultizer Prize Finalist in 2013.  The B & B group enjoyed the fairy-tale quality of novel, lyrical language and use of magical realism.  The portrayal of the Alaskan wilderness was breathtaking and stunning. The tale involves a childless couple working in rural 1920’s Alaska, who adopt a small, magical feral girl.

The good news for the B & B group is that Eowyn Ivey’s long awaited second novel, To the Bright Edge of the World, was released on August 2, 2016.   This epic historical adventure takes place in 1885, as Lieutenant Colonel Allen Forrester is commissioned to map the newly acquired Alaskan territory while leaving his pregnant wife at home.  A mysterious Eyak guide and a native American women are part of Forrester’s expedition party who travel to an unknown frontier.
